A Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP) is a group of 8 blood tests that provide information about your body’s metabolism, including kidney function, blood sugar, and electrolyte balance.
What This Test Measures
Glucose:
Blood sugar level – important for diabetes screening and monitoring.
Electrolytes:
• Sodium – Fluid balance and nerve function
• Potassium – Heart and muscle function
• Chloride – Fluid balance
• Carbon Dioxide (CO2) – Acid-base balance
Kidney Function:
• Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) – Waste product filtered by kidneys

BMP vs. CMP
The Basic Metabolic Panel does NOT include liver function tests (ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin) or protein tests (albumin, total protein). If you need liver evaluation, choose the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel instead.
